Montgomery school board approves a variety of items

The Montgomery Area School Board approved a range of measures during its monthly meeting this week.

Following the approval of a change to the district’s foreign exchange policy allowing the board to approve applications for placement at any time during the school year, the board approved a student to enroll with the district for the 2026-27 school year.

“It’s in the best interest for the school, but mostly for the student that’s coming, and also for the host families. The sooner that they know that they’re coming, it makes the planning process all much easier on them,” district Superintendent Dr. Joseph Stoudt said regarding the policy change, adding that the host family for the previous four exchange students will again welcome the new student into their home.

In financial matters, the board approved a proposal from Nexgen for a district boiler replacement, in the amount of $29,850; an estimate from Clark Service Group to replace the oven fan in the cafeteria kitchen, in the amount of $2,927.90; a lawn maintenance bid to Cheryl’s Clean Cut Lawn Care; a change order to change existing fire alarm system in MACC, in the amount of $17,737; and a resolution allowing the district to pursue a Public School Facility Improvement Grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support its roofing project, in the amount of $2 million.

In terms of staffing, the board approved Vicky Brown as a school bus driver; a number of spring athletic coaches with stipends ranging from $2,050 to $2,524.65; and acknowledged the retirements of Kim Delullo and Cassandra Martin from their respective elementary teacher positions, both effective June 5.

Other actions undertaken by the board include approval of the 2026-27 school and administrative calendars and curriculum guide; an amended affiliation agreement with Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania to add several programs, including athletic training, audiology and nursing; and the proposed 2026-27 BLaST IU #17 General Operations Budget.

The next school board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17.

Starting at $2.99/week.
