Hughesville Borough Council OKs quote for building project
Hughesville Borough Council at its most recent meeting approved a quote of $24,250 for construction of a building expansion.
The quote from Todd Clayton Construction was the lowest of among three received for the work with the cost being split between the borough and the Hughesville Water Authority.
The 28-by-30-foot addition to the maintenance building is needed to house a vehicle, according to borough officials.
Hughesville Mayor Richard questioned why the borough should be assessed any costs for the building expansion.
“We are only doing this because the authority is getting a new truck,” he said.
Council President Andrew Mook said the project will benefit the taxpayers.
“We share this building. We are outgrowing our premises,” he later told the Sun-Gazette.
In other matters, council discussed the Lycoming Career & Technical Center agreement it is expected to eventually approve.
Under the agreement, the borough is to serve as administrative body for state grant money being used to partially fund the LCTC expansion project.
The LCTC, located in Hughesville, serves students from six member school districts – East Lycoming, Benton, Loyalsock, Montoursville, Muncy, and Warrior Run – providing programs in technical education.
Borough officials noted that the ordinance requiring property owners to replace or upgrade sidewalks remains in place.
Councilman Jerry Daughtery reported that there continue to be property owners who have failed to adhere to the directive.
Each year, sidewalks located in specific sections of the borough are targeted for replacement or improvement under the ordinance.
Council approved a one-year agreement with Tebbs Brothers Landscaping for maintenance and other work at Memorial Park.
Council released the following dates for events and other activities to appear in the borough newsletter including:
• Easter Egg Hunt, 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28 at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds.
• Mulch pickup, 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April.
• Hughesville Vol. Fire Dept. Carnival, June 8 to 13.
The next council meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, March 9 at the municipal building, 147 S. Fifth St., Hughesville.
