Region’s congressmen back Trump’s Operation Epic Fury
U.S. lawmakers representing Williamsport and the vicinity are clear about their support of Operation Epic Fury.
“In terms of the mission, the president was very clear,” said U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick, R-Pittsburgh, on Fox News Sunday.
“We need to destroy the missiles,” he said. “We need to destroy the missile launching capability. We need to destroy the Iranian navy, which can block the Straits of Hormuz — which is a huge deal for the world and for the global economy. And that is a prerequisite of moving forward. And then this lays the predicate for the Iranian people to step up and ultimately take control of their own destiny.”
Oil prices spiked by 8 % as of Monday with gasoline at the pumps expected to hit people’s wallets.
Additionally, McCormick observed the coordination of intel between the U.S. and Israel which allowed the militaries to take out the top tier of Iran’s leadership.
“The U.S. stands at “the threshold of a historic turning point” in its relationship with Iran and the Middle East,” said U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Dallas, on his social media post.
“Now, through resolute action by the United States and Israel, we are drawing a firm line, offering the Iranian people and the broader Middle East a genuine opportunity for freedom, stability, and peace,” he said.
U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-Howard, has long expressed support for the Iranian people’s desires for a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear Republic of Iran, and condemning the Iranian regime’s terrorism. He also was supportive of last year’s B-2 raid over Iran’s nuclear sites and the effect they had.
U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, D-Braddock, made it clear of his position going forward.
“President (Donald) Trump has been willing to do what’s right and necessary to produce real peace in the region,” he wrote on social media.
“This is completely within his constitutional authority,” McCormick said regarding the War Powers Resolution question from many in Congress.
Trump’s administration briefed Congress as required by the resolution, he said, adding “he has 60 days, even under that resolution, before any further requirements come into effect.”
Moreover, McCormick remarked for the reporters how there’s no regime in the world that has more blood on its hands than Iran.
“It’s killed thousands of Americans,” he said. “Through the previous operation, we took out and set back their nuclear program significantly, but they have thousands of ballistic missiles and ballistic missile launchers. They use those regularly against US forces in the region and against our ally Israel.”
“This is a regime that continues to perpetrate violence throughout the world against Americans. No regime in the last 20 years has killed more Americans than Iran.”
“This is also the regime that gave 57,000 drones to Russia in its battle against Ukraine. This is also a regime that provides 80% of its oil to our adversary, China. This is a bad actor that’s got American blood on its hands, and the president’s actions are completely constitutional.”
“This is the first president that’s actually stood with the Iranian people . . . this president has stood up for the Iranian people,” McCormick said.
“He’s given Iran, the leadership, the Ayatollah, every opportunity for an offramp. Sadly, they didn’t take it,” he said.
“Now we need to push the moment. We need to stay on offense and eliminate this capability to kill Americans, to kill Israelis, to kill our allies.”
