Arbor Day celebrations to be held around Lycoming County

The City of Williamsport kicks off Arbor Day celebration at noon on April 24 in Brandon Park at the bandshell, followed the next day by Arbor in Muncy sponsored by Downtown Muncy Inc.

Jennifer Dudek, co-chair of the Brandon Park and Shade Tree Commission along with chair Deb Allison, cordially invites guests to attend the City of Williamsport Arbor Day at noon on Friday, April 24, at the Dr. Kenneth Cooper Bandshell.

The service to recognize the importance of trees to existence and to dedicate a total of nine trees and two benches in a presentation to families will include musical performances by the St. John Neumann Regional Academy, Dudek, an employee with the city Streets and Parks Department, also known as public works, said.

A program will be finished and handed out by the time of the ceremony with a complete map showing the trees that are to be dedicated as well as the benches. The city crew will have completed the tree plantings by the time of the ceremony.

Especially touched by the $1,000 donation from Williamsport Preservation’s Victorian Christmas Committee, for replacing trees in Brandon Park, Dudek said the service is a perfect time to take in all of the beauty at the park, hear musical selections from the students, and learn more about Brandon Park, in general.

Allison is expected to welcome all of the guests, with Dudek presenting the trees and benches in memory of the family members.

Downtown Muncy Inc.’s Arbor Day Celebration

Downtown Muncy Inc. (DMI) is welcoming the spring season with two community centered events, each designed to bring families, volunteers, and local organizations together in the heart of the borough in eastern Lycoming County.

On Saturday, April 25, DMI, in partnership with the Shade Tree Commission, will host an Arbor Day Celebration at Waldron Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will feature a community tree planting alongside a variety of family-friendly activities, including children’s storytime, local vendors, and educational demonstrations on pruning and stewardship.

Attendees can also enjoy a kids’ passport program with a take-home book, while the Muncy Little League will host a concession stand as a community fundraiser.

Following that, on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the community will gather at Kissel Park for Muncy Little League Opening Day, held in partnership with DMI.

The event marks the start of the youth baseball and softball season and will feature opening ceremonies, concession stands, and participation from local vendors and families.

“These events are about creating momentum early in the year,” said Bradley Clayton, of DMI’s Events Committee. “They bring people together, support our youth programs, and set the tone for a strong season of activity in the borough.”

Both events are free and open to the public.

DMI is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to supporting local businesses, strengthening community partnerships, and creating events that bring residents and visitors into the downtown.

Through strategic programming and collaboration, DMI works to promote economic vitality while preserving the character of the Muncy community.

Starting at $2.99/week.
