New principal named at Lycoming Valley Intermediate School

As of July 1, Lycoming Valley Intermediate School (LVIS) will have a new principal as David J. Michaels, the current principal at Curtin Intermediate, assumes the position of full-time principal following the retirement of Timothy P. Fausnaught after 17 years of service with the district.

The announcement of Michaels’ appointment was made at this month’s meeting of the Williamsport Area School board.

Related to the ongoing construction projects at the High School stadium and tennis courts, the board approved seven change orders. They included four from Lobar, the general contractor, in the amount of $21,671, $9,177 and $21,092 in additional charges and one in the amount of $43,256 in a cost reduction for the district due to a revision of site drawings to remove 476 linear feet of four-inch water line pipe. Other change orders were: Hosier Enterprise, HVAC. $15,671; Silvertip, Inc., plumbing, $2,740 and TurnKey, Inc., electrical, $6,001.

Two items pertaining to the construction, related to the new golf training center were approved. They include two Foresight Falcon launch monitors from Taza Supplies, South Holland, IL, at a cost of $33,771; and two slim booth 3 golf simulator enclosures from Technology International, Inc., Lake May, FLA, at a cost of $36,460. Both purchases are from the general fund.

Under personnel, the board accepted the resignations of Anthony L. Caputo III, part-time security guard at the High School, nine years of service and Diane M. Sorcha, part-time aide at Hepburn-Lycoming for 19 years. They also approved the resignation of Brittney A. Johns, part-time aide at Curtin.

Staff hirings approved included: Taylor R. Chrisenberry, full-time executive director of the district’s education foundation and public relations, $65,000; Kristina N. Jones, full-time special education teacher at Cochran Primary, $72,193; Kathryn A. Stevenson, part-time administrative support I/mailroom clerk at the District Service Center, $20.87 per hour; Marie E. Fox, certified retiree substitute teacher, $160 per day; Richard T. Dracup III and Braydon M. Miller, certified substitute teachers, $150 per day; and Catherine E. Rich-Washington, head high school cheerleading coach for three years at a stipend of $5,130.

The board also approved staffing for the Summer Kinder Camp, the 5th marking period academic recovery and the high school acceleration summer school.

Following the approval by the board, a full-time sign language interpreter for the district and a dean of students at Curtin will be part of the district’s staff.

Kimberly Owen, full-time instructional support/water safety aide was contracted for two hours per day for one week as a temporary lifeguard for the summer school health and physical education program.

The purchase of supplies from various suppliers was approved by the board including: athletic, $12,699; art, $21,082; custodial, $23,419; and general, $57,165.
