Parking authority plans to sell lot near Via Bella
Williamsport City Council recently passed a resolution authorizing and approving the sale of Lot H by the Williamsport Parking Authority.
“This is a parcel that the city had deeded to the authority in 2017,” said city Solicitor Austin White.
As a deed restriction, it required that if the authority wanted to sell the parcel, it needed to get the city’s consent.
The lot is accessed by Mulberry Street and is close to Via Bella. The resolution and part of the deal of the sale provides that any sale or proceeds realized from the sale will be paid to the city.
Councilwoman Liz Miele asked more about the proceeds from the sale.
Attorney Zachary DuGan, with Perciballi and Williams, solicitor for the authority, said the expectation is about $325,000 and noted that would be the proposed amount paid to the city less the closing costs.
Miele asked the administration what the anticipation is for that funding.
Jamie Livermore, city finance director, said he had just found out about details.
“I’d be interested in seeing it used to pay down debt,” Miele said.
DuGan noted how he considered and the authority believed the transaction is a good faith effort to try and untangle discussions revolving around the authority’s debt. Hopefully, he said, it is a good start to a better relationship.
Councilman Jonah Milliken said he has observed the hard work by the authority put into what otherwise are complex problems.
“I see it, recognize it and appreciate the hard work,” he said.
