Seven displaced after garage fire spreads to nearby homes

Seven people have been displaced after a garage fire in the 800 block of Memorial Avenue quickly spread to nearby homes Thursday morning, according to Lieutenant Justin Dunlap, of the Williamsport Bureau of Fire.
The first call came in around 10:15 a.m. from a Third Street resident who reported a fire to the rear of his property, Dunlap said.
Upon arrival, city fire personnel discovered the garage in the process of collapsing, and heat damage to 868 Memorial Avenue and the house immediately next door.
The fire then spread to the exterior of 609 and 611 Second St., a half-a-double that sits in close proximity to the now-demolished garage.
A second alarm was then declared, bringing in additional resources.
No one was hurt in the blaze, which remains under investigation at this time, Dunlap confirmed to the Sun-Gazette.
Power to the Memorial Avenue properties was expected to be restored late Thursday.
Those displaced are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
In addition to Williamsport, crews from Old Lycoming, South Williamsport, Montoursville, Loyalsock and Jersey Shore responded to the inferno.
