Wednesday night storm damages home, trees in Lycoming County

MATTHEW COURTER/Sun-Gazette

A roof was blown off a house in the 5900 block of Warrensville Road in Eldred Township as storms swept through the area late Wednesday night.

The resident was unharmed as the wicked winds peeled back the roof that had been installed within the past year, said a retired firefighter at the scene.

Emergency crews worked to cover the gaping hole with tarps to keep out the persistent rains, as insulation littered the street.

At the nearby intersection with Morse drive, a large tree was downed as the storm roared through.

Multiple trees and powerlines were reported down throughout Hepburn, Plunketts Creek, Muncy Creek and Franklin townships.

As the storm continued to move east, the National Weather Service ultimately issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for areas such as Hughesville, Montgomery, Muncy and Lairdsville.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, though several roads were temporarily shut down until trees and debris could be removed.

Starting at $2.99/week.
