East Lycoming School District hires new superintendent
The East Lycoming School District Board approved hiring a new superintendent who was introduced at the most recent meeting with his family at the board room.
Interim Superintendent Gerald McLaughlin introduced the new superintendent.
“It is my pleasure to inform you that the interview committee and board of directors have selected Dr. Gregory S. Scoggins, Ed. D. as the new superintendent for the East Lycoming School District.
“Dr. Scoggins has a long career of 21 years at Milton Area School District and we are excited to have him lead our team and school district. Dr. Scoggins is excited to join the Spartans and looks forward to working with the entire team here at East Lycoming School District.”
“Everything about this process really shined a light on this district, this community,” Scoggins said.
“These people sitting here on the board really approach this process with the love and commitment to making this district excellent. All the praise and recognition that they deserve I hope they get over time because they certainly did a fantastic job,” he said. “(The board) sold the district. They didn’t have to do much. I wanted to be here, but they sold the district and every question that they asked and every follow up after, I knew from the minute I sat down and started to have conversations with them that this was where I wanted to be.”
Scoggins added how the board deserves praise and recognition that they should get for what was done in a very short time period.
“They do a lot of work for this district behind the scenes,” he said. “You guys don’t get a lot of respect but you certainly get it from me.”
Board President Craig Dudek also gave credit to the search committee, adding how the five individuals serving on it deserved a hand as well.
“I have spent time in the schools this week and have met some great people and amazing students,” McLaughlin said.
“I look forward to serving and supporting the students and staff through the remainder of the school year and throughout the transition.”
