WASD gearing up for next year

The current school year may be winding down with the last day scheduled for June 3, but the Williamsport Area School Board is busy preparing for September 1 when grades 1-12 start the 2026-27 school year.

Contracts and agreements approved by the board included those with: Snap-on Industrial for two certification kits for the automotive technology CTE program at a cost of $18,861 and $33788; ,503 funded through the supplemental equipment grant; two Nursing Anne Simulator manikins from Laerdal Medical Corporation, for the health professions CTE program at a cost of $87,343 funded through the supplemental equipment grant; 47 Dell Pro all-in-one desktop computers from Dell Technologies at a cost of $57,979 paid through technology budget; 2026-27 New Story Schools tuition agreements to provide students with special education programming for up to eight students at $390 per day and up to eight students at $440 per day with a one to one support, if needed, at an additional $150 per day paid through the Special Education budget; the purchase of Twig Science workbooks for grades 4-6 for four years at a cost not to exceed $55,000; and the renewal with Aramark Educational Services, LLC, to provide food services management for 2026-27 school year.

Other expenditures approved included: purchase of two Rational gas combi ovens for Curtin Intermediate from Singer Equipment Company for $95,152 funded through the food services fund; participation in the Cooperative Purchasing Program of the Keystone Purchasing Network to replenish warehouse stock of copy paper with award to Contract Paper Group, Inc. for $36,875; transportation agreement with River Valley Transit for the 2026-27 school year; replacement of triple duty valves on geothermal water plant pumps at Hepburn-Lycoming Primary at a cost of $31,500 from BSC Mechanical, Inc.; fire panel upgrades at Cochran and Hepburn-Lycoming Primary schools at a cost of $11,244 and $10,773 respectively, from Johnson Controls, Inc.; a proposal from Sciens Building Solutions, Eastern Time Division for replacement of security systems at Cochran Primary, $6,150, Jackson Primary, $5,745, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary, $6,185, and Curtin Intermediate, $8,390; an agreement with Wayfare Supplies & Services, LLC, to resurface the main gym floor at the high school at a cost of $84,788; renewal of Arbiter-Pay for use by the Athletic Department and Business Office to process payments to event officials; the renewal of the software scheduling system subscription from FMX, Inc. for inventory management and scheduling including Event Manager Plus for scheduling of facility use at a cost of $15,371; and renewing of the budget management analytics, comparative analytics and financial planning analytics subscriptions with Frontline Education for use by the Business Office in budget preparation and forecasting at a cost of $23,920.

The board voted to accept the retirements of: Deborah L. Clark, full-time aide at Jackson Primary after 28 years of service; and Linda A. Zegarski, full-time administrative support at the District Service Center after 27 years of service.

The following resignations were approved: Christina L. Bowers, full-time 6th grade teacher at Lycoming Valley; Lydia R. Anderson, full-time general maintenance at the warehouse complex; William R. Flynn, full-time custodian at the warehouse; and Rae H. Weber, part-time aide at the high school.

The following election of staff was approved: Julianna G. McGovern, full-time fourth grade teacher at Lycoming Valley, $60,742; Elizabeth R. Rice, full-time 5th grade teacher at Curtin, $60,742; Michael S. Samar, full-time CTE Homeland Security and Protective Services teacher at the High School, $65,460; Isabel S. Vonstein, full-time 6th grade teacher at Lycoming Valley, $60,742; Colby D. Lowmiller, full-time general maintenance at the warehouse, $47,180; Lynne E. Piotrowski, certified retiree substitute teacher, $160 per day; and Abby L. Waltz, certified substitute teacher, $150 per day and Bernadine S. Hess, substitute aide, $15.25 per hour.

Athletic volunteers and their sports approved for the 2025-26 season include: Jayden M. Ulmer, high school volleyball; Jerry L Girardi, Sebastian I. Robinson, Anthony D. Segraves, high school football; and Eric E. Goodwill, high school girls basketball.

The next board meeting will be at 6 p.m., June 9 at the board room at the District Service Center, 2780 West Fourth St.
