Williamsport Regional Airport to get over $590K in state funds
The Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville is getting $593,832 of state funds to rehabilitate a maintenance hangar.
The project is funded by the state Capital Budget through the Aviation Transportation Assistance Program, which is supported by bonds.
It’s part of the nearly $10 million investment by the administration of Gov. Josh Shapiro to improve eight Pennsylvania airports, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The state’s aviation industry employs over 226,000 people, providing nearly $12.5 billion in payroll and employment benefits, and has a $34 billion annual economic impact.
“Pennsylvania’s airports connect communities and move goods and people around the world,” said PennDOT Sec. Mike Carroll. “These investments are another example of the governor’s focus on maintaining our infrastructure while also expanding business opportunities.”
Regional airports such as Williamsport Regional provide travel, deliver cargo and freight, and enhance operations for police and law enforcement, emergency medical services, firefighter training, and disaster and emergency response.
