Former Loyalsock educator sues the school district for racial discrimination

A former teacher at Loyalsock Township School District has sued the district in federal court claiming racial discrimination.

Marcus Williams filed the civil action this week in U.S. Middle District Court.

The Black educator was employed as a social studies teacher.

Williams claims that after he advocated on behalf of a student whom he believed was being treated unfairly, the district subjected him to increased scrutiny, discipline, suspension and, ultimately, non-renewal of his employment contract.

He was suspended on May 21, 2025, and publicly escorted out of the school during school hours.

The board voted in August of that year not to renew his contract.

Williams believes the vote was racially motivated. He brought the case before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, according to court documents.

Starting at $3.90/week.
