The price of regular gasoline at the pump in Williamsport and around the region is either at the $4 mark, above or is close.
Gas prices remain up as relations between the U.S. and Iran remain tense.
Regular gasoline went up 10 cents since last week to $3.94, and in Lycoming County, it's at $4.07, according to AAA.
A check of the stations in the city and across the region all indicate that gas has remained near this price point but is increasing of late. A week ago, for example, it was about 3 cents lower, and a month ago it was $4.10. This week the average price across Pennsylvania is $4.19.
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is $4.01 as of Tuesday.
The instability of the war has pushed crude oil prices toward $80 per barrel and most states are still averaging less than $4 per gallon, but not by much.
Earlier this year, the national average remained in the $4 range for all of April and May and most of June.
Last time the national average was $4 or above was on June 17 when it was $4.02.
The national average per kilowatt of electricity at a public EV charging station stayed the same this past week at 42 cents.
The nation's top highest expensive gasoline markets remained Hawaii ($5.43), California ($5.40) and Washington ($4.98).
The least expensive gasoline is in Indiana ($3.31), Mississippi ($3.49) and Louisiana ($3.53).
"While the ongoing U.S.-Iran situation continues to weigh on markets, the story is increasingly less about crude oil and more about global refining capacity -- the Strait of Hormuz remains closed while continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries further squeeze an already strained supply picture," said Patrick DeHann, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
He suggested motorists should brace for a rough few weeks.
