It was a lean night at the South Williamsport School Board meeting this week as several staffing positions were approved.
In financial matters, the board approved a resolution to incur non-electoral debt pursuant to the Local Government Unit Debt Act, in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $6,530,000, and to evidence such indebtedness by the issuance of its general obligation bonds to finance a capital improvement program consisting of undertaking guaranteed energy savings projects at the junior senior high school, additional capital projects of the school district, and paying the costs of issuing and possibly insuring the bonds.
Several agreements with Nittany Learning Services were given board approval, including to host a counseling support staff member at Central Elementary School for two days per week, at a cost of $37,030; an Elementary Intervention Support Staff (EISS) at Central Elementary School, at a cost of $75,220; and the Customized Learning Program (CLP)/Positive Education Intervention (PEI) at the junior senior high school, at a cost of $68,640.
In staffing, the board approved Lexie Kibby as an elementary special education teacher at Central Elementary; Jayne McLaughlin as a paraprofessional at Central Elementary, at an hourly rate of $17.74; Susan Peake as a cafeteria manager at the junior senior high school, at an hourly rate of $20.55, all effective at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year: Joshua Hope as a maintenance worker, effective immediately, at an hourly rate of $21; Julissa Smith as junior high head cheerleading coach for the 2026-27 school year, at a stipend of $2,340; and acknowledged the resignations of Micah Zellers as van driver/stockroom attendant, effective June 19; Sue Davenport as junior high head cheerleading coach and Rachel Knee as junior high assistant cheerleading coach, both effective June 29.
Board member Jason Young also has resigned from his seat, effective today.
The open seat for Region One covers South Williamsport Borough, from the east side of Curtin Street, east to the borough line, and will be advertised for 30 days, with the goal of interviewing potential candidates and appointing one of them during the board's August meeting, Business Manager Jamie Mowrey said.
The next board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17.
