Woman who won sex abuse case fights Loyalsock Township School District’s request to overturn monetary award

A woman who litigated and won a sex abuse case against a former Loyalsock Township School District teacher and was awarded over $2.8 million in compensatory damages is fighting against the school district's request to overturn the judgment.
Plaintiff Jane Doe filed the opposition in federal court asking for the district's motion to be denied in its entirety, according to court documents in U.S. Middle District Court.
The verdict reflects a reasoned assessment of the evidence. District officials received information in 2010 that an adult district coach, Kelli Vassallo, had an improper and potentially sexual relationship with a minor student, had access to middle school girls, maintained extensive contact with the student, gave gifts, and continued contact despite the family's efforts to stop it.
This occurred while Vassallo was coaching the minor's seventh-grade basketball team, according to the document.
Vassallo was coach from August 2010 through May 2016.
The woman's attorney asked the court to deny the district's renewed motion for judgment as a matter of law, or, in the alternative, motion for a new trial or attempt to alter or amend the judgment.
