Disc golf course at Brandon Park gets re-proposed

By Mark Maroney 2 min read

A Williamsport man pushing for a disc golf course at Brandon Park has re-proposed a smaller course.

Nick Saramandich spoke in public comment period again with the City Council to tell members how he further tweaked the idea of a nine-hole (net) course instead of 18.

Disc golf is a sport with metal baskets with an opening that captures the thrown weighted discs, just as a golfer would use clubs and putters on the fairway and green.

Disc golf is played at Lime Bluff Park near Hughesville, Indian Park, Montoursville and Willowan Disc Golf Course in Trout Run.

There is a Lycoming County Disc Golf Association to which Saramandich belongs.

Saramandich said he plans to meet with the Brandon Park Commission on Sept. 15 on the revised nine-hole course design and will formally propose the project design to the committee members.

"I know it would be a fantastic addition to the park that would serve the greater good of the community," he said.

It really is the only park in Williamsport that is big enough to make it work, he said.

The commission acts in an advisory capacity regarding park expenditures, purposes, and overall care among other responsibilities on behalf of the 43-acre park.

Saramandich said he will put together an official course design that shows Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA)-recommended setbacks for all park amenities for each location.
