Trout Run Volunteer Fire Co. is a recipient of $1 million to go to its new fire station construction on the site where Tropical Storm Debby flooding Aug. 9, 2024, damaged and made the station temporarily unusable
"Today, I'm proud to announce we've been able to secure $1 million for Trout Run Volunteer Fire Co.," said state Rep. Joe Hamm, R-Hepburnville, who serves the 84th House District of Lycoming and Sullivan counties.
The money is in the bank and will be used by the fire company to rebuild their firehouse. The community is a 15-minute drive north of Williamsport.
It has existed for 81 years.
A ceremony was held Tuesday on the future site with fire officials and former Lycoming County Sheriff R. Mark Lusk offering congratulatory comments and reflections on how the fire company went from "tragedy to triumph."
Commissioners were present at the ceremony along with present-day, longtime fire company members and those who recently joined.
Chief Nick Smith thanked bunches of people and Bob Whitford, one of the assistant fire chiefs and a trustee, drew attention to several drawings, including what the finished fire station will look like.
Despite Debby flooding, the members of Station 16 never stopped serving the village or surrounding communities.
The phrase "Trout Run strong" echoed through the valley and appeared on sweatshirts and ball caps as a testament to the community that depended on each other.
