Elijah Eddie Salgado, the driver of the 2002 Subaru Outback that collided last month with a motorcyclist who died over the weekend from his injuries, was arrested and jailed Wednesday night on a felony charge of homicide by vehicle, according to Williamsport police.
In addition to the felony charge, the 18-year-old Salgado, of 1237 Isabella St., was arraigned before District Judge William Solomon on a misdemeanor charge of recklessly endangering another person and a summary charge of failing to stop at a posted stop sign prior to crossing into an intersection.
Killed in the 8:30 p.m. crash on Aug. 27 at Ridge and Hillside avenues was Corey Hall, 54, of Williamsport, who died Sunday afternoon in UPMC Williamsport of multiple blunt force trauma injuries, Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. said.
Police said Hall was traveling north on Ridge Avenue when he and Salgado's SUV collided. Salgado was heading east on Hillside Avenue, police said, adding that the violent collision was captured on a surveillance camera from the nearby Jackson Primary School.
The video shows that Salgado "does not come to a complete stop at a posted stop sign." The Outback "then begins to cross Ridge Avenue before striking Hall's motorcycle," police said in an affidavit. Salgado was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
