ALLENWOOD -- The Gregg Township Board of Supervisors recently granted conditional use approval to PNK Group to begin developing a data center in the Commercial Manufacturing Zoning District at the Great Stream Commons industrial park in Union County, according to reporting by the Daily Item.
"After Supervisors David Masser, Arthur Masser and Michael Keiser unanimously approved the motion, nearly 60 residents erupted in anger," the Daily Item reported. "Some screamed at the elected officials, questioned their morality, called them derogatory names and wished them ill will."
The supervisors voted without comment, but the township's special attorney, Rick Shoch, said a 21-page decision memorandum details the findings of fact and conclusions of law. He added the memorandum also outlines the application and summarizes the hearing.
The supervisors granted approval with 31 conditions addressing noise levels, additional testing, a community impact mitigation plan, a decommissioning plan, landscaping requirements and water limitations.
The board considers these "reasonable conditions" to ensure PNK is appropriately regulated, Shoch said, according to the Daily Item.
PNK initially plans to construct a 252,000-square-foot data center in an existing building at 198 Enterprise Blvd., but has indicated further development.
The township has not acted on a curative amendment for PNK, the Daily Item reported. The two sides have agreed to an extension until Dec. 14, Shoch said. The planning commission wants to propose its own ordinance, which will likely include similar conditions outlined in the conditional use document approved Tuesday.
