Hughesville Borough Council is nearing approval of an ordinance covering the operation and location of data centers in the community.
Borough solicitor Zachary DuGan told council at its most recent meeting he is preparing such an ordinance that would restrict the facilities to industrial districts.
In addition, the ordinance includes provisions governing noise, water usage, environmental and community impacts.
"It's pretty comprehensive," he said. "I would recommend it for conditional use approval."
Council took no immediate action on the ordinance but is expected to vote on it in November.
DuGan noted that other area municipalities have approved similar ordinances.
In other matters, council approved the purchase of a new police reporting system at a cost of $18,400.
Council approved the permit for the Veteran's Day Parade set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 in the borough.
During the parade, parking will be prohibited on both sides of North Fifth Street and on Main Street from Cemetery Street to Murray Motors body shop.
Council directed the solicitor to draw up a warning letter to be sent to various property owners who have yet to comply with the ordinance for fixing or replacing their sidewalks.
It was reported to council that cleanup has begun at 120 Crawley St., a property which had been cited for code violations.
Council met in executive session following the meeting to consider contract and personnel issues.
In other matters, council approved:
• A franchise agreement with Comcast for cable service.
• Leaves pickup from Nov. 2 to Dec. 1.
• A $300 donation to the SPCA.
The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9 at the municipal building.
