State Rep. Jamie Flick, R-South Williamsport, recently announced a nearly $1 million investment in two Lycoming County schools to expand transportation and workforce training programs.

According to a news release, the funding comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Career and Technical Education grant program and was awarded to the following educational institutions: Lycoming Career and Technology Center -- $500,000 to expand its existing medium/heavy vehicle and truck technology program by establishing a heavy highway transportation and diesel workforce pathway and Pennsylvania College of Technology -- $483,100 to expand existing commercial driver's license (CDL) preparation curriculum into a comprehensive CDL training, testing and credential attainment pathway.

"Investing in career and technical education helps prepare students for good-paying jobs while meeting the workforce needs of the region," Flick said, according to the news release. "I am happy to see these investments supporting local schools and helping students gain the skills and support they need to succeed in high-demand transportation careers."
