The new Millionaire Legacy Center was officially opened at the Williamsport Area High School's homecoming football game recently. Community members, school officials, students, contractors, and local government representatives gathered to celebrate the completion of the facility as part of the district's Homecoming festivities, according to information from the school district.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held prior to the game, marking the culmination of a construction project designed to create additional space for community events, student learning, and engagement.
"It is amazing to me what can be accomplished when a determined group of individuals come together and simply make it happen," said Dr. Timothy S. Bowers, superintendent.
"This project would not have been possible without the support of our Board of Directors, our architects, Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates, our contractors, Lobar, Inc., Hosler Enterprise, Silvertip, Inc., Turnkey Electric, Inc., and LIVIC Civil, as well as our project manager, Dale Crans," Bowers said.
The center is designed to serve both the school district and the greater Williamsport community while creating valuable hands-on learning opportunities for students.
Students in the district's Culinary Arts Career and Technical Education (CTE) program have already begun utilizing the facility, providing catering services for events during the first three home football games of the season, including during the grand opening celebration. Homeland Security CTE students also contributed by assisting with crowd control and facility management.
Additional opportunities are planned for students in other CTE programs.
Business students may eventually assist with managing event space reservations and operating a pop-up merchandise store, gaining practical experience in customer service, event management, and business operations.
Beyond its educational benefits, the facility also provides a space to celebrate the district's rich history while creating new opportunities for current students.
"We wanted this to be a place where our alumni legacy could be preserved, but also a place where our current students can see and experience the opportunities available to them," Bowers said.
"Our students will benefit from this facility, and so will our community. It gives us an opportunity to connect the two and show the 'why' behind what we do as a district," he added.
The Millionaire Legacy Center was one of several improvements undertaken by the district. The district also recognized the completion of new tennis and pickleball courts, along with facility upgrades that include new restrooms, a training room, locker rooms, concession stands, a golf simulator, a film room, and a new press box.
Together, these projects represent the district's continued investment in its athletic and community facilities, enhancing opportunities and experiences for students, families, alumni, as well as members of the community, the news release stated.
The district will celebrate Military Appreciation Night at this week's football game.
