Mr. J. Frank Thompson, 85, of Jersey Shore, was welcomed into Heaven on Friday, May 19, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Susan (Bob) Grossman, of Oval, Dr. Cindy (Craig) Allen, of Jersey Shore, Betsy (Shane) Thomas, of Woolrich; and daughter-in-law, Candy Thompson, of Avis. He was preceded in death by son Jon F. Thompson. He is survived by grandchildren, Jennifer (Jesse) Reibson, Beth Aliffi, Ben (Rachel) Thomas, Jerry (Rachael) Clark, Bob Grossman, Adam (Katie) Thomas, Loreen (Jeff) Tomb, John Thompson, Layla Thompson, Nathan (Elisa) Allen, Adam (Lindsey) Allen, Jason (Danielle) Willits, April Kline and Angel (Tony) Sechrist. He is also survived by 34 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a special friend, Derrick Shields (Woolrich).
Frank Thompson was a familiar face to those in and around Jersey Shore area. He served Jersey Shore Borough as its tax collector for over 25 years. He owned and operated the J. Frank Thompson Insurance Agency in Jersey Shore from 1969-1982. He previously worked as a staff manager for American General Life Insurance Co. where he supervised five agents in the Jersey Shore and Lock Haven area. Earlier, he worked as a methods engineer at the former Piper Aircraft Corp from 1964-1969. Mr. Thompson is a 1951 graduate of Curwensville High School.
Mr Thompson was an active member of the Masonic LaBelle Vallee Lodge No. 232 in Jersey Shore serving as secretary for 40 years as well as being a member of the Williamsport Consistory. He was a member of the Citizens Hose & Ambulance Service, serving as an ambulance driver for more than 20 years. Most notably, he has been a member of the Jaffa Shrine, serving as chairman of the Jaffa Circus Committee responsible for taking Jersey Shore School District’s children to the annual Shrine Circus in Altoona for over 40 years. He has served as president of the Clinton County Shrine Club from 1984-85.
He was active in a large number of community organizations: serving as director of Jersey Shore YMCA, member and secretary of Jersey Shore Area Water Authority, member of the Lycoming County Tax Collectors Association, member of the Lycoming County Independent Insurance Agents Association was a life-time member of the Independent Insurance Agents Association, serving as a field representative for the U.S. Department of Labor, completing the Life Underwriting Training Council (LUTC) and his Insurance Brokers License.
Additionally, he served as executive director of the Jersey Shore Chamber of Commerce as well as serving as a Director of the Lock Haven Savings and Loan Association and Jersey Shore State Bank. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Jersey Shore, was a member of the Jersey Shore Borough Council, and served as President of the Lycoming County Borough’s Association.
His interests included antique Ford automobiles, owning a 1959 Edsel, 1961 Ranchero, and several Mustangs. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their river lot. He loved spending time with family and friends and attending and watching PSU football and wrestling.
A time of visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening, May 23 at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24 at Welker Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Guiswite will officiate.
Burial will be held in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
