Mary B. Ambrose, 64, of Loyalsock Township, passed away unexpectedly at home after a brief surgery, Monday, Feb. 3, 2020.
She was born at Divine Providence Hospital on Oct. 17, 1955, and was the daughter of the late Al and Genevieve (Cole) Bryan.
It was Mary's dream to always help others. She started out as a candy striper at Divine Providence Hospital and eventually became a registered nurse. Mary graduated from South Williamsport High School in 1973 and was a member of the marching band. She graduated from Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg and returned to Williamsport Hospital to work in the Coronary Care Unit where she worked for five years. There she met her husband of almost 40 years, David N. Ambrose, M.D., while he was finishing his Family Medicine Residency. They moved to Coudersport where Mary continued to work as a visiting nurse until her family started.
Family and friends were paramount in Mary's life. Her love of those who were in her life was so infectious. She was always reaching out to others, making sure they knew they were loved and respected.
She had a keen sense of humor and a love of music, reading and baseball. She and her husband enjoyed many cross-country trips together and stopping in various cities to watch a major league ball game or two. They loved the outdoors and enjoyed their annual trip to the Adirondacks to hike and paddle their canoe around the waters looking for moose and loons.
In addition to her loving husband, David, she is survived by one son, David E. Ambrose, of Philadelphia; one daughter, Sarah E. Ambrose; and daughter-in-law, Lindsey Schmidt, of Lancaster; one granddaughter, Monroe Ambrose-Schmidt; one stepson, A. Christian Ambrose (Heather), of Lewisburg; three stepgrandchildren, Kai and Kendall Ambrose, and Olivia Schmidt-Varga; one brother, Robert Bryan (Kathy); and much-loved dog, Tobe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Bryan.
There will be a memorial service 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Kyle Murphy officiating. Following the memorial service, there will be a time of fellowship at the church.
