Carl J. Mayer
Carl J. Mayer, 84, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 at his home. Surviving is his wife, Doreen M. (Warner) Mayer with whom he would have celebrated 64 years of marriage on Dec. 26.
He was born on July 3, 1936 in Williamsport. He was the son of the late Carl E. and Violet G. (Morris) Mayer.
Carl played catcher for the Loyalsock Little League team in the second annual Little League World Series in 1948. He was a Williamsport High School graduate and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He met his wife in Nottingham while stationed in the United Kingdom.
Carl worked for many years as a clerk in manufacturing at Bethlehem Wire Rope. He was a member of Faxon-Kenmar United Methodist Church and enjoyed watching sports, particularly the New York Yankees, and spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his four daughters, Katina L. Frey (Keith) of Florida, Tammy L. Mayer of Williamsport, Carlene J. Ganley (Charles) of California, and Lorraine M. Burger (Michael) of Williamsport, 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Dennis D. Mayer of Williamsport.
In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by a brother, Edward G. Mayer, and a sister, Cleo McGee.
A family memorial is being planned for spring 2021.
