Phyllis Wagner Shafer, 94, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. She was born Phyllis Jeanne Haber on April 21, 1928 in Pontiac, Mich. She resided in Wilmington, Delaware for 15 years, then moved to the area of Harrisburg, Pa. for 50 years, 22 of which were spent in Shiremanstown, Pa. outside of Harrisburg. Her latter years were spent in Williamsport, Pa. Phyllis was the daughter of the late Pauline W. Haber of Harrisburg and Williamsport, Pa. and the late Leonard H. Haber of Clayton, Delaware. She was the widow of Marlin E. Wagner, Sr., who passed away April 2, 1990. They were married for 42 years.
She is survived by her current husband, John R. Shafer of Lewisburg, Pa., a son, Marlin E. Wagner Jr. of Lexington, N.C., 4 daughters, Sherry L. Reinecker of Harrisburg, Barbara A. Wagner of Harrisburg, Susan G. Wagner of Harrisburg, Holly A. Bell of Mechanicsburg, a stepson, Eric Shafer of Selinsgrove, a stepdaughter, Irenay Weaver of Montoursville, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Phyllis was a graduate of Steelton High School Class of 1946 and worked in the secretarial field for 30 years before retiring in 1993. She was a member of the West Shore Rose Club, where she served as a vice president and The Greater Harrisburg Rose Society as a secretary. She was also a chairwoman of the florists committee for the Williamsport Victorian Christmas Tour of Homes. She was a member of Baughman Memorial United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, Pa. Phyllis was an avid gardener/landscaper, and was a member of the Montoursville Garden Club. She enjoyed cooking, canning, knitting, needlepointing, reading, crossword puzzles and scrabble. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home, 3125 Walnut Street, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill, PA. Viewing will be from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
