Charles W. "Bill" O'Connor, 91, formerly of Montoursville, passed away March 21, 2023 in Pen Argyl, Pa.
He was born March 29, 1931 in Williamsport, son to the late Charles L. and Caroline Mann O'Connor.
Bill graduated from Williamsport High School in 1951. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an electrician's mate, and served aboard the USS Sabine oil tanker, part of the Atlantic fleet during the Korean war, serving from 1951-1955.
Upon discharge from the Navy, Bill joined Doris in her family's business, E. Hille's the Angler Supply House, and assumed ownership from 1968-1992 until the business was sold.
He enjoyed fly-fishing, hunting and woodworking. Bill had the opportunity to fish with President Jimmy Carter, and Senator's Heinz, Simpson and Danforth on local streams. Bill was a founding and a life member of Trout Unlimited in Williamsport, serving in Regional and National positions. Also a member of the Fly Fishers Club of Harrisburg, where he was awarded the "Order of the Hat" for his involvement in preserving our natural resources. Other memberships included, Consolidated Sportsman, Ducks Unlimited, Loyalsock Watershed Association, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Faith United Methodist Church and Boy Scout Leader Troop 21.
Surviving are his Children, Charles E. (Chuck) and Mary O'Connor of Clarksville, Tenn., and Karen and William Werkheiser of Kunkletown, Pa.; grandchildren, Keith and Nicole Hamm, Nate and Cheyanne Frey; and great-grandchildren, Jayden Hamm, Dawson and Darcie Frey.
There will be a Military memorial service at a later date, and internment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
