Donald R. Nibert

Donald R. Nibert, 80, of Upper Fairfield Township, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023 in Charlotte, N.C.

Donald was born on June 3, 1942 in Portsmouth, Ohio, the son of Carlos and Dorothy (Kronk) Nibert. Donald graduated in 1960 from Portsmouth West High School, went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in forestry from the University of West Virginia, and did graduate work at Pennsylvania State University.

He was an Assistant Professor of Forestry at Pennsylvania College of Technology, and retired in 2009, after a 40-year career.

He was actively involved with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Society of American Foresters, and an active member of the Montoursville Presbyterian Church. Donald was an avid hunter and gardener, enjoying all aspects of the outdoors.

Donald was the husband of Donna C. (Cooper) Nibert, with whom he celebrated 45 years of marriage; son, John A. (Karen) Nibert, of Montoursville; daughter, Julie N. (Matthew) Rhule, of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Janet Whitehead, of Zanesfield, Ohio; twin brother, Ron Nibert, of Chiefland, Fla.; grandchildren, Bryant Rhule, Vivienne Rhule, Elliot Nibert, Leona Rhule, and Garreth Nibert. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by wife, Donna C. Nibert, on Sept. 9, 2012; daughter, Cheryl L. Nibert, on July 17, 1996; and brother, Roger K. Nibert, on Aug. 11, 2022.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, (formerly Spitler Funeral Home), 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, PA, with Rev. David Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, or on Saturday at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m.
