William G. "Bill" Harding, 86, formerly of Hughesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia on March 27, 2023.
Bill was born in Hughesville to George T. Harding and Sarah Edith Warn. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea G. "Dot" (Trick) Harding, of 67 years. They met in 10th grade of high school and were married shortly after their graduation in June 1955. Bill will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father; a quiet, humble, gentle and kind soul and an avid Pennsylvania sports fan--he loved his Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles and often rooted for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. He also made time to watch the Little League World Series games every year.
In his younger years, Bill loved farming with "Pap" Trick. He would bring newborn calves to the house so the children could see them if it was too snowy to go to the barn. He would help family with farming chores like baling hay with his twin brother, Bob, or other family members with planting, harvesting or butchering. He was hardworking and dependable and always available for his friends and family.
Bill held many jobs to support his family, from delivering oil for Community Oil to cleaning businesses to working as a laborer at Modecraft and finally Andritz. He retired from Andritz, Muncy, in 2002. He was a former member of the Williamsport Masonic Lodge, Muncy Masonic Lodge, Muncy Moose, Hughesville Jaycees and a member and Custodian of Bethany United Methodist Church for 41 years. He loved the "Men of Bethany" (the MOB) and missed them when he moved out of state. He was devoted to Bethany and the surrounding community and will also be remembered for his faith and generosity.
In addition to his widow, Bill is survived by four children, Laura A. McCann (Delaware), Stacy L. Flanigan (Georgia), Sue Ellen Keyser (New Jersey), Kevin W. Harding (Delaware); seven grandchildren, Steven A. Smith, Stephanie M. Argudo, Tess E. Keyser, Tristan E. Keyser, Morgan T. Stoner, Bailey K. Harding, and Mason A. Harding; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley B. Crawley; a half-sister, Elizabeth A. (Steve) Swisher; a sister-in-law, Barbara Harding; and a brother-in-law, James Trick, of South Williamsport. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Pauline R. Harding; his maternal and paternal grandparents; his brother, LaRue; and his twin brother, Robert ("Bob").
Bill's children will remember their father for his love, support and encouragement--he would say "You can do better" or "There's still room for improvement" when reviewing school report cards. He provided a shoulder to cry on or a dish of their favorite ice cream if they needed it. They will also remember him for his humorous one-liners, usually a gem. He was a strong man who could and would do anything for his children, family and friends.
