Richard Murray Matlack Sr.

Richard Murray Matlack Sr., of Eliot, Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 3, 2023, at the age of 82. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

Born Sept. 27, 1940, he was the son of the late Harold W. Matlack and Nora E. Matlack.

Richard attended South Williamsport High School, and a vocational training program. He later became a highly skilled heavy equipment operator for almost 30 years, and contributed to the construction of many highways and large facilities in the Williamsport area.

During his retirement, Richard worked for the Pennsylvania College of Technology Electrical Department as the Tool Room attendant for 13 years. After spending their entire lives in Pennsylvania, Richard and his late wife decided to "snowbird" to Maine to live with their son and family.

He loved spending time with his family, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, and lawn mowing. He devoted lots of time helping multiple family members and friends as a general handy man. In his spare time, he enjoyed his membership in the Ten Point Hunting Lodge, watching John Wayne movies, and growing his ballcap collection. His kind, easy going, and shirt-off-his-back helping spirit will be missed but not forgotten.

Predeceased by his loving wife, Lynda of 61 years, Richard leaves behind three children, Carole, Judy, and Richard Jr.; a brother and sister, Jeffrey and Sandra; four grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Cassidy, and Paisley; one great-grandchild, Makaela; and his rescue cat, Buckshot.

The family will hold a private memorial service later, which will be sure to include his all-time favorite dish, spaghetti and meatballs.

Memorial contributions may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation at give.michaeljfox.org or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777.
