Michael Tyson, 81, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., formerly of Williamsport, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday July 17, 2023.
Michael was born Nov. 22, 1941 in Phoenixville, and was the son of Dr. Perry H. Tyson and Marie Tyson.
He is survived by his longtime companion and best friend, Marie Shollenberger, of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; her two daughters, Shelly Wilson (Brian) and Michele Newlon; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Toby Richards (Lynn), of North Carolina, and Beth Masters (Mark), of Indiana; and his brother, Tim Tyson (Susan), of Williamsport; as well as several nieces and nephews.
For more than 40 years, Michael's career was in education, having taught mathematics at Pennsylvania College of Technology. He was an avid fan and supporter of the arts, and enjoyed many performances at the Community Arts Center.
In keeping with Michael's wishes, donations may be made to the Perry H. Tyson and Marie Tyson Scholarship Fund at Juniata College, 1700 Moore Street, Huntingdon, PA, 16652.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
