John P. Eck, 59, of Jersey Shore, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at the Gatehouse after a courageous battle with cancer. His family was by his side.
He was the son of Carol L. (Wenner) Eck, of Jersey Shore, and the late Daniel J. Eck Sr., who passed away in 2005.
John served his country in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1984. He often, fondly told stories of the time he spent in Germany and was forever on a quest for authentic German cuisine.
Having a zest for life and the outdoors, John loved to hunt, fish and walk trails through the woods and on his property. He was an avid animal and wildlife lover and enjoyed his many visitors that would come into his yard at his beloved farm.
John was a passionate "foodie" who was an incredible cook and baker. He was often making deliveries to friends and family of soups and beautiful fruit pies. Many of his creations were cooked on his woodstove. He enjoyed growing and harvesting his own fruits and vegetables, homesteading and canning.
John loved music, particularly outlaw country, southern and classic rock. He was self-taught and played guitar.
In addition to his mother, Carol, he is survived by four brothers, Daniel Eck Jr. (Kathy), Randolph Eck (Debra Davis), Christopher Eck Sr. (Kimberly Matis) and Eric Eck (Deborah Bueno); two sisters, Elaine Eck and Stephanie A. Oakes (Duane); three nephews, one niece, three great-nephews and one great-niece.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
