Luther P. Reiner passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024. Born in Mount Carmel, Pa., on March 2, 1923, upon high school graduation, Luther began his military career. Luther served as a military policeman in the US Army, seeing active duty in a combat unit during WW II in China, Burma, and India.
Upon discharge from the military, Luther accomplished many endeavors including ownership of Reiner Lumber Company in Walford, Md., and a distinguished career with the United States Department of Defense where he served the United States Civil Service Commission in many roles, including one he spoke about fondly – a Lumber Inspector in NYC.
On August 30, 2000, Luther married the great love of his life, Mary Jane (Temple) Keyte of Montoursville, and became a beloved part of the Keyte family. Luther leaves behind his adoring wife and her children; Dan Keyte (Carlene), Judy Hakes (Trey Phillips), Ken Keyte (Christia), and Bill Keyte, as well as nine grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Preston Reiner and Elizabeth (Williams) Reiner, as well as his siblings.
Luther was an accomplished ballroom dancer and an avid gardener. The birds in his neighborhood never went hungry, and he loved to hunt accompanied by many hunting dogs throughout his lifetime that he considered dear friends and faithful companions. Luther loved to end his days with a Rob Roy cocktail, storytelling, and laughter with dear friends and family.
Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Luther's military service to the Lycoming County Veterans Transition Center, 515 Legion Road, Muncy, Pa 17754 – or in support of his love for dogs to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, Pa 17701.
