Mark A. Roller, 87, of Loyalsock Township, passed away peacefully with his family by his side under Hospice care in Adrian, Mich, on May 16, 2024.
He was born on August 3, 1936, a son of the late Orrin and Beatrice (Heim) Roller. In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine Folmar Roller.
Mark was a member of the Faxon Kenmar United Methodist Church and a graduate of Williamsport High School in 1954, the Pennsylvania State University in 1958, and the University of Michigan in 1961. He served as the Regional Director of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. Mark was also the President of the Loyalsock Lions Club for many years and a life member and President of Blooming Grove Historical Society, where he organized their 200th Anniversary. Mark and Lorraine were loyal volunteers with the American Rescue Workers for more than 30 years. They also enjoyed traveling and escorted many trips for AAA including the first Penn State football bus trips and tailgate.
Mark enjoyed attending Penn State football games as well as men's and women's basketball games with his wife, family, and friends, and introducing many to their first PSU game. He and his wife hosted tailgates at football games for more than 50 years. With Lorraine, he enjoyed chairing many High School reunions. Mark was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, including as a member of the Wilt Cabin for more than 60 years, and enjoyed participating in big game hunting trips in his retirement.
Having lived in Williamsport most of his life, Mark contributed to the community in many ways, including spearheading the development of the Loyalsock Community Pool. His years of service as a volunteer helped many. Mark was also a marble champion in Junior High School, an early baseball team player in what would become the Little League Baseball World Series, and a High School basketball center holding the current rebound record.
Surviving are his son Mark Jr. (Melissa) Roller of Maryland; two daughters Karen Roller of Colorado and Kim (Peter) Barr of Michigan; a brother Calvin (Susan) Roller; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on May 28, at 1 p.m. at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with Pastor Sam Astin officiating. A private burial will be held at the Blooming Grove Cemetery, Hepburn Township. Friends may call from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions to the American Rescue Workers, 643 Elmira St, Williamsport, Pa 17701.
