R. Lee Woodhead
R. Lee Woodhead, 84, of Montoursville, died Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at UPMC Muncy Place. Born May 25, 1940, in New Albany, he was a son of Francis and Lavina (Caseman)Woodhead. Lee married Margaret “Peg” A. Shultz on Sept. 18, 1966, and shared 57 years of marriage.
Lee graduated from Williamsport Technical Institute in 1960 with a degree in Operations and Maintenance of Heavy Equipment. In 1962 Lee enlisted into the US Army and was shipped to Thailand to run heavy equipment. Returning from the Army in 1966, he went to work for G E Logue, a local contractor and as Mr. Logue’s business grew, Lee was given a crew of his own and did many large jobs in the Williamsport area which included the demolition of the Lycoming County Court House. Lee worked 23 years for Mr. Logue, before deciding to go into business for himself in 1984. The business grew and his oldest son was soon helping him in the summers and then full-time after graduation. Lee and his son worked together until 2002 when Lee decided to retire, selling the business to his son.
After retirement he took over the making of maple syrup on the Woodhead Farm, which had been passed down for generations. Lee enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and visiting each state capital and working in the woods. Lee was a member of the Warrensville Community Church, Eldred Township Fire Company, and American Legion Post 104 of Montoursville.
Lee is survived by his wife Margaret “Peg” A. Woodhead, of Montoursville; sons, Thomas J. (Jill) Woodhead, of Montoursville; James L. (Mandi) Woodhead, of Colorado Springs, CO; David M. (Sarah) Woodhead, of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren, Noble, Jade, McKenzie, Ayden, Julia, Cole, Weston, Wyatt.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
Memorial Service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street Montoursville, with Pastor Scott R. Koser officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
