John P. Nittinger, Jr

John P. Nittinger, Jr., known lovingly to many as “Mr. Nitt”, age 76, of Mansfield, Pa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, Pa. He was born on May 3, 1948, in Williamsport, Pa, a son of John and Connie (Hennigan) Nittinger. After spending 32 years together, John and Sarah (Thompson) Nittinger were married for 28 years. He worked as a physical education teacher at Warren L. Miller Elementary School in Mansfield, Pa for 35 years. John enjoyed spending time with his family, vacationing in Hatteras, NC where John and Sarah were wed, travelling out west to fish in the mountains of Montana, hunting, gardening, tinkering and working on his MG and his John Deere Tractor.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah; son, Richard Nittinger of Blossburg, Pa; daughters, Leah (Taylor) Parsons of Mansfield, Pa, and Kimberlee (Col (Ret.) Richard) VanGorden of Crofton, MD; grandchildren, Gabby Parsons, Gatlin Parsons, 1st Lt. Madeline VanGorden, Benjamin VanGorden, and Samuel VanGorden; mother-in-law, Betty Thompson of Mansfield, Pa; brother, James (Charlene) Nittinger of Montoursville, Pa; sister, Sandra (Steve) Eck of Williamsport, Pa; sister-in-law, Karen Nittinger of Williamsport, Pa; brothers of the heart, Steve Hensler and John Stone of Williamsport, Pa, and Tim Brookens of Fayetteville, Pa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Marc Nittinger, and father-in-law, Joseph Thompson.

Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, Pa. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor George Zerbe officiating. A private burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Mansfield, Pa.
