John A. Kita

John A. Kita, 86, of Hughesville, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at UPMC Williamsport.

Born September 22, 1938, in Wilkes Barre, he was a son of the late John and Leona (Hendricks) Kita.

John was a caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a longtime musician, his love of playing and performing saw him in numerous groups in the 60s, 70s and 80s, most notably his bands The Expressions and Orion. He continued playing his Gibson bass until recently, sitting in with some of his favorite local bands on request. Outside of working for Proctor and Gamble, he could be found traveling, studying Japanese and medical history, reading, and salt or freshwater fishing. John truly loved his charter trips on Lake Ontario, and fishing in the Florida Keys where we caught a magnificent Barracuda which was around five feet long and 40 pounds. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, American Legion Post 35, the local VFW, Knights of Columbus, and Saint Vincent Archabbey, in Latrobe, Pa., where he was an Oblate since 1977. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he sailed on the USS Boston.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, JoAnn Kita, of Hughesville; two daughters, Cindy (Joe) Brennan, of Dover, Pa., and Joy Snyder, of Danville; two sons, John Kita, of Danville, and Brian (Christine) Kita, of Duboistown; a brother, James (Jeanette) Kita, of Williamsport; seven grandchildren, Martin Brennan, Ashley Brennan, Jesse Kita, Alex Kita, Rachel Vogel, Alecia Snyder, and Nathan Snyder; and two great-grandchildren, Kiera Snyder and Archie Vogel.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Kita and a brother, Joe Kita.

Mass of Catholic Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, at Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, with Rev. Sean Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery with a combined local/active military accord providing honors. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
