Ann Greevy Shumaker

Ann Greevy Shumaker, 75, passed away on March 1, 2025, at her home, in Grantville, PA, after a brief illness. Ann, born April 1, 1949, in Williamsport, Pa was the daughter of the late Judge Charles F. Greevy Jr. and Eleanor Seitzer Greevy.

Ann is survived by her husband of 54 years, Retired Pennsylvania State Trooper John C. Shumaker. The couple resided in Hummelstown and Grantville since 1972 as John transferred from Troop F in Montoursville to the Pennsylvania State Police Academy located in 1972 where he served in the equestrian unit until his retirement in 1999.

Ann attended Williamsport public schools and graduated from Williamsport High School in 1967 and Lycoming College in 1971. Ann and John were married in Williamsport on August 29, 1970, by family friend and officiant the Reverand J Odell Zechman.

Throughout her life, Annie, as she was known to her family and friends, loved gardening, cooking, swimming and horseback riding. She enjoyed feeding the “critters” around her home and loved feeding and watching the birds. She was a “caregiver extraordinaire of nature.” In her younger years, she worked for McCormick Foods, but her hobbies were much more fun for her.

Annie never gave up on her love of swimming, eventually building her dream “chlorine pond” in her backyard where she loved to entertain and enjoyed any time that her friends, family, brothers, nieces, nephews, and dogs would come swimming with her, and she never passed up a challenge to a game of long and short basketball in the pool.

In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased in death by her older brother Robert A. Greevy and his first spouse, Eileen Adams Greevy, and by her younger brother, David Upton “DUG” Greevy and his wife, Peggy Sims Greevy. She is preceded in death by John’s sister, Joan Shumaker Rauschenberger and brother-in-law Glenn, and nephew Mark Rauschenberger of Rockford, Illinois.

In addition to her husband, Ann is survived by her oldest brother Charles “Skip” Greevy and sister-in-law Gloria Z. Greevy of Williamsport and Sister-in-Law Sophie Mam Greevy of Hershey and Sister-in-Law Jane Glennie of Columbus.

Although she and John did not have any children, they had many nephews and nieces and great grand nephews and nieces. Annie never forgot a single birthday and never missed a phone call with a “monstrous” Happy Birthday greeting to each younger family member to include: Nephews, Chad (Alysha), Robert (Bess), Fasy (Jennifer), Famy (Megan), Jay (Jennifer), and Reed; Nieces, Nicole (Todd), Megan (Michael), Anne, Elizabeth; Tina; Grandnephews, Griffin, Boaz, Logan, Miles, Jack, Sam, and Ambrose and Grandnieces, Devan, Kalliyan, Kiera, Charley, Una, and Cora who will miss her positive spirit, fun-loving attitude, her loving way of sharing tough news, and the fun way she handwrote “spiraled messages” around every Christmas, Birthday, and Greeting card she’d give. Aunt Annie loved to have fun –a must for someone with an April Fool’s Day Birthday.

A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at a later date in the summer. Gifts may be made in honor or in memory of Ann Greevy Shumaker to Hospice of Central Pa, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, Pa 17110 or https://hospiceofcentralpa.org/ or to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area – Brandywine Valley SPCA, located at 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, Pa 17111 or https://bvspca.org/

Ann will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and those who had the privilege of knowing her.
