John B. Irvin

John Benson Irvin, III, 96, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025 at Coastal Pointe, Shallotte, NC.

He was the son of the late John B. and Florence Clark Irvin.

John Benson (Bud) Irvin III born 1928 came from a long line of entrepreneurs. His grandfather John Irvin Sr. arrived in America in the late 1800’s and as a young man opened a general store with his brother in a Pennsylvania coal town. Later moving to Williamsport PA his Grandfather purchased an office building and opened a shoe store which John took over after his father, John Irvin Jr, passed. John expanded the business to a chain of 6 stores selling the business and moving to Kiawah Island in the 80s. He loved it there and loved it so much he began a general contracting business building houses on the island. After retiring he settled with his wife in Bolivia NC where he joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary at the Oak Island Coast Guard Station. He loved to patrol the waters around South Port and assist in Chaplin duties for the auxiliary. In his final years his great pleasure came from his time reading his bible, his devotions and praying for people.

Mr. Irvin is survived by two sons, William H. Irvin and John Irvin IV; one daughter, Evelyn R. Peterson; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Louise H. Irvin; one son, Clark Irvin; and one daughter, Eleanor Gale Hagen.

Services will be held at a later date with the family.
