Richard W. “Dick” Langer was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ following a brief illness on May 8, 2025.
Born November 20, 1946, he was a son of the late William A. and Eva I. Langer of Montoursville. Dick graduated from Montoursville Area High School in 1964, beginning a career in business management at Endicott Johnson, W.T. Grant Co. and Foodtown Markets. This career culminated with a 37-year employment with Construction Specialties of Muncy in sales and marketing management, from which he retired in 2012. During his career, he traveled extensively throughout the United Staes, Canada and Europe.
Dick was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Muncy, where he served in various committees and ministries.
He was an avid Penn State sports fan, as well as a fan of the Philies. He enjoyed sports of every season, living on ESPN. A devoted golfer in his retirement, he was a past member of the Williamsport Country Club and currently a member of the Wynding Brook Golf Club. His winter golf trips to Myrtle Beach and Fort Myers with the “Muncy Snowbirds” were highlights of each year.
In his earlier years, Dick was involved in coaching basketball and Little League baseball in both Montoursville and Muncy, and enjoyed scouting for several local high school basketball teams.
Dick had a strong commitment to volunteerism throughout the community on many various levels. He served as a two-time president of the former Oakes Club in Williamsport, including 12 years as a director. As a Muncy Rotarian, he served as president of their club three different terms and was also a director for 24 years. He was active on the district level in Rotary as well, serving as an Assistant Governor and chairing the district’s Membership Retention Committee. Dick was a Paul Harris Fellow, a major donor to the Rotary Foundation including annual donations as a member of the Paul Harris Society and a Rotary Foundation Benefactor. In addition, Dick served on the board of directors for the East Lycoming YMCA in Muncy as well as the corporate River Valley Regional YMCA in Williamsport.
Dick is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jo, sons, Robert (Kris), of Mechanicsburg, Brian of Williamsport, daughter by marriage Crystal (Colin) Crook of Lancaster and granddaughters, Caitlyn and Amy. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Sally (Mike) Biddinger, brother-in-law, Gary (Betty Ann) Schenk and sister-in-law, Kathy Peterman; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Janet, with whom he shared a 34-year marriage; and infant twin daughters, Sherri and Teri.
Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, where the memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with his pastor, the Rev. Richard Robinson officiating.
Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in the Muncy Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to either the First United Methodist Church or to the Muncy Rotary Club, P. O. Box 251, Muncy, PA 17756.
