Betty J. Hazel, 81, of Williamsport, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at The Williamsport Home. She was born on June 14, 1944, in Wellsville, New York, a daughter of the late Forrest and Alice (Short) Peterson.
Betty was a member of Bethel AME Church, Williamsport. She worked for The Williamsport Home for over 50 years as a housekeeper. She married the love of her life, the late James M. Hazel, Jr., on February 13, 1965. In her free time, Betty liked to do word searches and complete puzzle books. She also enjoyed going to bingo and watching game shows.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Tina Louise (Angel) Quinones of Chester, Virginia; and Jamie Evonne (Bernard) Washington of Hopewell, Virginia; four grandchildren, Tamara and Lance Rhodes, and Javon, Janiya, and Javari Washington; two brothers, Robert and John Peterson; a sister, Bonnie Bonita; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 58 years, Betty is preceded in death by three brothers, Gary, Melvin, and William Peterson; and three sisters, Grace, Edith, and Rosemary Peterson.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation and Funeral Home, Williamsport.
