Lorraine Vernarec, 87, of Montoursville, passed away Monday, June 2, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center in Muncy, PA.

Born November 26, 1937, in Clifton, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Roelof and Anna (Faulch) Holster. She grew up in Clifton and graduated from Clifton High School in 1955. She and her husband, John F. Vernarec, celebrated 65 years of marriage on September 14, 2022 shortly before John passed away in January 2023.

After graduating high school, Lorraine was employed by Bell Telephone. Upon marrying John, she continued to work with Bell Telephone until transitioning to assume the role of mother and manager of the family household. Lorraine enjoyed many pastimes over the course of her life, including ceramics, knitting and crocheting, and playing cards, Bingo and board games. She enjoyed watching movies, particularly the classics, often spending her evenings with TCM. Her carefully placed wry, witty humor was no doubt influenced in part by her passion for I Love Lucy – inspiring a lifelong interest in the leading lady of the beloved sitcom that was shared and quoted amongst family. Lorraine served as secretary of the Meck Senior Center for several years. She was an expert at preparing food, especially for Penn State football games, where she tailgated with her daughters and welcomed many of their friends to enjoy the spread. She continued to enjoy spending time with the family during Carport Picnics and holiday gatherings. Lorraine had a mind like a steel trap, often being able to set the record straight regarding details from the past. Nothing was ever lost in her house – she knew exactly where to find things and could communicate her mental treasure map for others to locate them.

Surviving are two daughters, Joanne (Shawn) Magill of Camp Hill, and Eileen Craig of West Chester; four grandchildren: Ryan Magill, Jenna Magill, Tim Craig, and Amanda (Eamon Fitzpatrick) Craig; and several nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, two sisters (Eleanor Piccolo and Dorothy Pritchard) and a son-in-law, Harry Craig.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, (formerly Spitler Funeral Home) 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Pastor Jerry Uppling officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in Montoursville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
