Clair W. Keefer
Clair W. Keefer, 96, of South Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Celebration Villa of Loyalsock.
Born July 15, 1928 in rural Turbotville, he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Anna R. (Menges) Keefer. On August 1, 1948 he married the former Joy M. Neyhard and they celebrated 62 years of marriage until her death on February 28, 2011.
He was a 1946 graduate of the former Turbotville High School and served with the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He began his banking career at Turbotville National Bank earlier in life and retired as the Vice President and Manager of Commonwealth Bank of South Williamsport where he was employed from 1965 until 1991.
Clair was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport since 1965 where he was past-president and former treasurer of the church council, served on the finance committee, and was a member of the church choir.
He served as a councilman for many years for the borough of South Williamsport, was a 75-year member of Watsontown Lodge #401, F & AM and Williamsport Consistory, a life-member of Muffly Huff VFW Post, Turbotville, and a member of Royal P. Steinbacher American Legion Post, South Williamsport. Also, Clair was a member of the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County, Williamsport. He was a life member and past president of the South Williamsport Lions Club, and a former member, along with his wife, of the Billtown Square Dance Club.
Surviving is his daughter, Wendy Keefer DeHart of South Williamsport; a close friend and caregiver, Lori Smith of Williamsport; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; two grand-dogs, Jedi and Dexter; and two grand-cats, Ani and Marty.
Preceding him in death besides his wife were five brothers, Glenn, Harold, Irvin, Sidney, and Kenneth Keefer, and two sisters: Ceal I. Keefer and Meda L. Moyer.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10 a.m. to Noon on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport, where a funeral service will be held at noon with Pastor Steve Bowser, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Turbotville Cemetery.
