Mary Ribando (Kay) Tighe

Mary Ribando (Kay) Tighe passed away on July 22, 2025 at Londonderry Village in Palmyra, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her spouse Edward M. Tighe in 1995; her parents, William and Dorothy Nardi Ribando; her brother, Reverend William R. Ribando, CSC; and her sister, Dorothy Kinsman. Surviving are her sister, Paula Ribando of Hershey and brother, Robert (Cheryl) Ribando of Charlottesville, VA; five nieces, three grandnieces and one grandnephew; her stepson, Edward M. Tighe, Jr., of Ontario, Canada; and her brother-in-law Don Kinsman of Simpsonville, SC.

Kay graduated from Williamsport High School in 1957 and from Marywood College in Scranton in 1961. She earned a Master of Social Work degree at Catholic University two years later. During her professional career, she worked as a child welfare social worker in Wayne, PA; in Atlanta, GA; and lastly at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, CA, where she served as a discharge planner.

Kay loved her time in Silicon Valley, California and lived a vibrant life there. She enjoyed her job and she had an incredible ability to balance her knowledge and her compassion to provide exceptional care and support to her patients and families.

She and Ed enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and golfing outings. Kay was rarely home, and instead she was always up for hiking, concerts, and margaritas with friends. She was active in her condo community and had close ties to many of her neighbors. This included a close friend, Kathy and her beloved sheep dog Stormy, who Kay enjoyed walking despite being smaller than him!

Once she relocated to Hershey to be close to her sister Polly, Kay quickly got to know many of her neighbors. Family members often joked that Kay could turn the 90 second walk between her condo and Polly’s into a 30 minute ordeal since she consistently managed to engage with every neighbor on the way.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with burial in Mount Carmel of Wildwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rev. William R. Ribando CSC Scholarship Fund, King’s College, Office of Institutional Advancement, 133 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711. The “Father Bill” Scholarship at King’s was established by her parents and is awarded annually to a student from the Williamsport area.
