Edward Joseph “Ed” Keller

Edward Joseph “Ed” Keller, 60, passed away on September 4, 2025, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, PA after struggling with several health issues.

Born in Bridgeport, CT on January 6, 1965, he was adopted by Dan and Doris Keller at the age of six months, joining his older, adopted brother Daniel. The family moved several times before settling in Medina, OH. He graduated from Medina High School, where he was very active in theater.

Ed attended Akron University, in Akron, Ohio…with a degree in communications.

He joined his parents as they moved from Ohio to Williamsport, PA area. He worked as a member of a production crew for smaller television stations and production companies in the Williamsport area, before becoming a full-time news photographer at WBRE and WYOU in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 2002.

Ed covered the good, bad, the ugly and everything in between as a news photographer in all kinds of weather until 2022. Health issues forced him to change his path, becoming an editor, and assisting in putting together the video for multiple newscasts.

Ed always loved to draw and had an incredible eye. His desk at work was filled with sketches, and there was always a notepad with another work in progress with the tiny lines and bursts of color carefully done by hand. In his spare time, he worked on several computer animation projects. His biggest dream was to be able to work in film, doing animation or production artwork.

His greatest joy in life was film. His personal collection of films covered everything from anime to action adventure, to horror and of course, science fiction. When he saw a film, it wasn’t just to fill time, it was all about the story, the actors who wrote the script, how it was filmed, the special effects, how those special effects were done, the soundtrack…it was about the entire experience. His review of a film, whether good, bad or indifferent would always be insightful.

Ed was known for his burly presence, his loud belly laugh, and his gentle soul.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Keller, in Williamsport; his brother, Daniel Keller and his wife Marjie and their son, Joseph and daughter, Shauna in Kendallville, Indiana; his cousin, Sandy Campbell and her husband Bob, in Chesterton, Indiana and many nieces, nephews and dear friends who have become family over the years.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, 196 Brick Church Rd., Montgomery, with Fr. Shawn M. Simchock officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty Thomas Funeral Home, Montoursville.
