Joann J. Rothermel

Joann J. Rothermel, 81, of Montoursville a devoted nurse and beloved family woman, peacefully passed away, Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the gatehouse surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion.
Born January 15, 1944 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Boyd and Florence (Miller) Cavanaugh.
A 1961 graduate of Williamsport High School, she went on to complete the three-year nursing program at Williamsport Hospital, proudly earning her RN in 1964. Joann dedicated her life to caring for others, serving as a nurse throughout her lifelong career at Divine Providence Hospital, Leader South, and the Williamsport Home.
Known for her gentle heart and selfless nature, Joann touched the lives of countless patients, colleagues, friends, and loved ones. She found joy in the simple things, spending time in her garden, tending to her flower beds, and reading a good book. Yet above all else, her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by her family, whom she cherished deeply.
Joann will be remembered not only for her commitment to her profession but also for her unwavering love, gentleness, and the warmth she brought into every life she touched.
Surviving are two children, James R. Rothermel, II (Jerri Rook) of South Williamsport and Nicole K. Warden (Larry Heim) of Mechanicsburg; two granddaughters, Gabriella and Tessa Rothermel; one great-granddaughter, Gilly; and a sister-in-law, Trudy Beachem (Tom) of Delaware, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, James R. “Ron” Rothermel and a grandson, Gage Rothermel.
A funeral service to honor Joann’s life will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 24, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at Sanders.
