Norma R. Snook

Norma R. Snook, age 92, of Jersey Shore, PA, passed away on September 5th. She was born on May 28, 1933, to Lyman W. Ritter and Weltha B. Packard Ritter.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth E. Snook, formally of Jersey Shore. She is also survived by two sons, Dr. Craig A. Derr of Parrish, FL and A. Dane Derr of Mechanicsburg, PA; and a daughter, Lisa L. Rayhorn of Booneville, PA. She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis M. Derr; her daughter, Sheryl D. Derr; and her first husband Jack T. Derr.

Norma was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School and Lock Haven University. She was a well-respected fourth-grade elementary teacher in the Jersey Shore Area School District, where she taught for 25 years.

She loved to travel and visited many countries, including Russia, Australia, Germany, and England, to name a few. She was an avid collector of anything with an owl on it. At one point, she had over 120 items in her house with some type of owl.

She was very active in the church for years and held different positions within the church. Periodically she would speak at different venues about her experience in Russia and how Russians view Christianity.

She was active in Eastern Star, Amaranth, the Red Hat Society, and the Garden Club of Jersey Shore, and served for 20 years for the American Rescue Board.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2025 at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore.
