Don L. Getgen
 
								Don L. Getgen, 70, known affectionately as Bump to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at Heritage Springs Memory Care in Montoursville. Born on March 21, 1955, in Williamsport, PA he was a son of the late Jack E. and Eleanor L. (Porter) Getgen.
Don is survived by a loving family who cherished every moment spent with him. His children, Jocelyn E. Getgen Kestenbaum (Scott) of Chappaqua, NY, Erin R. Sauers (Andrew) of Williamsport, Joseph L. Getgen (Anuhea) of Hawaii, and Douglas A. Getgen of Williamsport, have all been a testament to his nurturing spirit and guiding hand. Don’s siblings, James B. Getgen (Susan), Bart L. Getgen (Beth), John E. Getgen (Rhonda), Bonita J. Charron, and Susan R. Rey (Jon), will remember him as a pillar of strength and camaraderie. His six grandchildren, Nolan and Avery Sauers, Iyla and Sela Kestenbaum and Kaiãkea and Koa’e Getgen will carry forward the memories of their grandfather’s love and playful heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Vickie Y. Getgen, and his brother and sister-in-law, Brett and Rose Getgen.
For over 40 years, Don owned and operated Getgen Excavating. He also worked for 16 years at Bethlehem Steel. Don was the epitome of a hard worker who not only loved his craft but also instilled a strong work ethic in those who worked alongside him. His commitment to his profession was matched only by his integrity and the respect he earned from his peers and community members.
Don’s interests were a reflection of his adventurous and handy nature. He found solace and joy at his lake house on Seneca Lake, where boating, fishing, and witnessing the breathtaking sunrises were among his favorite activities. An avid outdoorsman, Don was happiest when he was outside, whether it was mowing the lawn, plowing snow, or meticulously restoring old cars. His membership in the Dog Run Hunting Club was a source of great pride and camaraderie, allowing him to share his passion for the outdoors with like-minded individuals. As we remember Don, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. His legacy is one of love, hard work, and the countless happy memories he created with all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
A funeral service to honor the life of Don will be held Monday at 12 p.m. at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport. There will be a viewing from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
Burial will be held at the Christian Church at Cogan Station Cemetery.
