Sheila M. Sones
Sheila M. Sones, 68, of Hughesville, died Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at The Gatehouse at Divine Providence. Sheila married Barry D. Sones on June 26, 1982. Together they celebrated 26 years of marriage together until his death on August 4, 2008.
Born October 5, 1957, in Wellsboro, PA, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Hoover and Ruth (Holliday) Hosterman. Sheila was a 1976 graduate of Hughesville High School. She was employed as a seamstress for 48 years at Glamorise Foundations Inc., of Williamsport. Sheila was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Hughesville. She and her husband Barry volunteered for Toys for Tots for many years. She also helped place flags for veterans on Memorial Day, among many other veteran’s activities.
Shelia never met a stranger and was always friendly and always had a smile. She was a social butterfly and enjoyed being with friends, co-workers, and family. Sheila enjoyed driving in her Red VW Bug. She loved the company of her dachshund, Miss Molly, and her cat Maggie Mae.
Surviving is a daughter, Heather (Christopher) Stewart of Kilgore, TX; two grandchildren, Kayla McGowan (Eric Wyatt), and Amber McGowan; great grandchildren, Averi Haden, Aaron Wyatt, and Bailee Haden; a sister, Sharon (Donald) Merrill of Montoursville; two brothers, Edward Hoover of Jersey Shore, and Terry (Carol) Hoover of Hughesville; four nieces, Bethany (Levi) Jacobs of Montoursville; Emma (Cole) Brown of Sunbury; Michelle (Jon) Mordan of Danville; and Heather Smith of Hughesville; and three nephews, Brian (Grace) Merrill of Hughesville; and Walter (Jennifer) Bostain of Danville; and Aaden Hoover of Sunbury.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shelia was preceded in death by a sister Vickie Bostian; and two nephews, Craig Merrill, and Justin Hoover.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St. Hughesville, with Rev. Kathy Burkhart officiating. Burial will follow at Picture Rocks Cemetery. Viewing will be an hour prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
