Shirley L. Hite, 87, of Montgomery, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025, at her home.
Born Jan. 1, 1938 in Tyler, she was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Stella Cora (McDonald) Detwiler. On March 9, 1957 she married George Z. Hite. Together they celebrated 49 years of marriage before his death in 2006.
Shirley was a graduate of the Robert P. Smith High School in Bedford. She worked as a seamstress at several local manufacturing companies, until her retirement in 2000.
Shirley was a member of the Bower-Decker Post 251 American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed going to the legion to listen to her favorite band, Ruff Life. Earlier in life, Shirley enjoyed spending time at their river lot and socializing at the Montgomery Boat Club. Shirley was fond of creating plastic canvas, crossword puzzles and word finds. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch, watching people drive by and the birds.
Most of all, Shirley loved spending time with her family.
Surviving are two sons, George Z. Jr. and Renee Hite and Michael and Crystal Hite, all of Montgomery; a daughter, Margaret and Bill Skelton, of Allenwood; ten granddaughters, Kristine, Kimberly, Karen, Michele, Rebecca, Rachel, Shelby, Courtney, Steffanie and Amy; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Junior Detwiler and a sister, Anna Mae Holton.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at Grenoble's, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at noon, with Rev. Robert Rice, officiating.
Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to either the American Heart Association, online at www.heart.org or the American Diabetes Association online at www.diabetes.org.
